We see the wolf again. I think it represents whether he will succumb to his predatory side by following up with the boy to have secret meetups which would be the perfect recipe for developing a more physically intimate relationship, perhaps sexual. Markus sleeps on it. Will he do what his heart desires or will he try to refrain and continue to live a lackluster unsatisfying life for the sake of everyone?
So we cut to our protagonist washing his hands and staring at himself in the mirror. The scene shows us the setting: a home all neat and tidy, a bed made up, and many pills on the bedside. I hate even having to think about this. I think we can all conclude what this will lead to. Poor Markus could no longer bear the burden of a broken heart and never being accepted by society for his orientation.
The ending really killed me the first time I watched this movie. I ugly cried… and I’m not an emotional person. Classic tragedy tales, bleak news stories, sad ads on TV about animals in shelters… not a tear. But this movie… bawling like a baby. I wished in an alternative ending Markus got back on the good side of Jessica and Arthur was able to see him again. Even with some of the things I dislike about this movie, I would without hesitation show it to another person. I think it does a good job of educating the masses about how some MAPs live their life. Even though there are many many traits I do not share with the protagonist, I still find myself relating to him on a very personal level.
